Walker aiming to take the full five

Alex Walker is aiming to ensure that Ealing Trailfinders end their match against Hartpury College on Saturday with the full five points on offer.

Last week Ben Ward’s side beat Esher 22-5 to stay top of National 1 by three points, but despite their best efforts they were unable to score a fourth try to wrap up the try bonus point and so left Molesey Road with four points for the win, but no bonus.

“We always looking to go out there and gain a bonus point, but the first job is to get the win and the four points, ” Walker said. “We did that and we’re happy with that. Hopefully we can get one more point this week.

“It has been training as usual, doing our skills, doing our contact and work at the breakdown. We’ve been doing a few pieces that we need to iron out.”

Hartpury College are in their first season of National 1 rugby having risen rapidly through the ranks to win National 2 South earlier this year.

John Barnes’ side travel to Vallis Way having enjoyed three wins from four in October. The latest was an eight-try 53-12 victory at home to Tynedale, which demonstrated the team’s desire to play attacking rugby.

They are a side well-known to four of the Ealing Trailfinders squad; captain Tom Brown, James Love, Steve Pape and James Copsey all studied at the Gloucestershire College, while former Ealing Trailfinders prop Tim Brockett moved there over the summer.

“A few of the boys have played there previously and played against them and from what we’ve seen on the video they are on a good run of games in recent weeks and they are going to be a big challenge, ” Walker added.

“They like to play some open rugby and they pride themselves with their forwards from what we’ve seen, driving lineouts and a big power game, so it will be another great challenge like we had last week against Esher.”
