Townson signs on for Championship challenge
Ealing Trailfinders are pleased to announce that they have signed Glen Townson till the end of the season.
The second row has joined from Aviva Premiership side Bristol, for whom he played 112 times. The 29-year-old signed for the west country club in 2011 and featured in all four matches between Bristol and Ealing Trailfinders in 2013-14 and 2015-16.
During his time down with Bristol he played alongside current Ealing Trailfinders players Rhys Lawrence, Iain Grieve and Will Davis.
“I’m really happy to have signed with Ealing Trailfinders,” Townson said. “They are an ambitious club, with a great off-field set up and are playing some very good rugby at the moment.
“I want to come in, help the team maintain their momentum and push on for the later part of the season.”
Townson played for Sale Sharks’ Academy while he was completing a degree in chemistry from Manchester University. From there he spent a season with Doncaster Knights and he then moved onto Newcastle Falcons.
He hails from Morecambe and played his junior rugby for Vale of Lune. He also captained the England U18 side and took on new teammate Will Harries when England U18 took on their Welsh counterparts in 2005.
“It is great for us to bring in Glen at this stage of the season. He is a proven performer at this level and after a period out with injury is keen to get back on the pitch,” Ealing Trailfinders Director of Rugby Ben Ward said.
“The timing has worked out really well with Scott Andrews finishing his loan period and returning to Newport Dragons and I would like to take the opportunity to thank Scott for all his hard work and wish him the best for the future.”
