Townson, Casson and Jones guarantee second-row competition

Ealing Trailfinders have ensured that they will have a powerful engine room next season by extending the contracts of Glen Townson, Harry Casson and Llewelyn Jones.

All three have played important roles in Ben Ward’s side’s progress to the Greene King IPA Championship play-offs and the British and Irish Cup semifinals.

Townson arrived from Bristol in December and made his debut away to Bedford Blues in the Cup. Since then he has played a further 11 times and captained the team on two occasions, most recently away to Yorkshire Carnegie in the league on Easter Saturday.

“I am extremely pleased to be re-signing with the club,” Townson said. “I've had a great first six months here, and I'm excited for what the future holds at Ealing Trailfinders.

“Ealing Trailfinders are a club with a great vision and I am looking forward to helping the club fulfil their potential.”

Harry Casson joined Ealing Trailfinders in the summer from Birmingham Moseley, having played for the West Midlands outfit against Ealing Trailfinders three times the previous season.

Casson scored Ealing Trailfinders’ first try of the season, at home to Carnegie and added a second to his total a week later away to Cornish Pirates. He has played 20 times this season.

“I’m really happy to have re-signed for Ealing Trailfinders,” Casson said. “My game has developed since joining the club and I’m looking forward to working with the coaches for another year.

“Ealing Trailfinders is a club that is growing, with lots of potential and I am proud to be a part of it.”

Llewelyn Jones will start his fourth season in 2017-18 having signed for the club before the 2014-15 season, when he helped the team to the National 1 title.

Last season he played 23 times in his debut Championship season and this year he has added another 14 appearances to his total.

“I’m really pleased to re-sign for my fourth year at the club,” Jones said. “The club has established itself as a top Championship side and I'm delighted to be part of it.”

The three players are joined in the second row next season by Barney Maddison who signed a long-term deal when he joined from London Welsh in December and Ollie Curry, who joined from Rotherham Titans last week.

“I’m delighted with the options we will have in the second row next season,” Director of Rugby Ben Ward said. “Barney and Glen joined us half way through the season and have made a big impact, especially with their leadership and experience.

“Harry is a good Championship player and has performed well this season. We still feel he can kick on massively and it will be a big pre-season for him.

“Llewelyn will enter his fourth season with the club and gives us options in the second row and at flanker. He is extremely mobile and, like Harry, has an opportunity with a big pre-season to really progress as a player.

“There is a lot of continuity in our second row department and combine that with Ollie Curry’s arrival and there is good competition for places.”
