Preo expecting another tough test at Nottingham

Adam Preocanin expects no let-up when Ealing Trailfinders travel to play Nottingham at Lady Bay in the Greene King IPA Championship on Friday.

Last season’s Players’ Player of the Year returned from injury two matches ago when he came off the bench in the 24-23 win over Bedford Blues and he then followed up a week later by starting the 50-24 victory against Rotherham Titans.

Both those matches came on the 3G at Vallis Way, but on Friday Ben Ward’s team will be back on the traditional grass on the pitch that runs alongside the River Trent.

Nottingham currently sit fifth in the Championship table with 20 points, five behind Ealing Trailfinders and they beat Bedford Blues 36-34 in their most recent fixture.

“It is a big change because the pitch is different,” Preocanin said. “We’ve had two home games back to back, so we’ll have to adapt to that and playing under the lights as we haven’t played under the lights yet.

“They’re at home and a good team. The next few matches we’re playing teams of the same level and that will be a big test to see how we get through.”

Since Ealing Trailfinders’ win over Rotherham Titans the players have had two weeks without a match. They were able to get away for the first of those two weeks before returning to training ahead of the trip to the East Midlands.

Preocanin enjoyed a trip to Israel and is hopeful that it will help him return to his best after too many months of rehabilitation.

“In the modern game it is important to get people away and refresh mentally and physically,” Preocanin said. “We had the week off and I think it will pay dividends.

“The first game I played I ran around a bit frantically, but it was good to get a good blow out and didn’t mess anything up. Last game I was still finding my fitness, but good to get a start and start call the line-outs. After such a long time out I just had to get through it and then I can think about starting to put my stamp on it.”
