Gibbons set for first start in familiar surrounds

James Gibbons will make his first Ealing Trailfinders start against Richmond in the Greene King IPA Championship at the Athletic Ground on Sunday.

It is a venue he knows very well as the loose-head prop spent last season on loan with Richmond’s co-tenants London Scottish. He has featured off the bench in three of Ealing Trailfinders’ Championship matches this season and on Sunday will form a front-row with tight-head Lewis Thiede and hooker Matt Cornish.

Number 8 Mark Bright leads the side and like Gibbons the Athletic Ground will provide many memories after he spent five seasons playing for London Scottish.

He is joined in the backrow by flanker Arthur Ellis, who played junior rugby for Richmond and who scored the last time the teams met there during the 2014-15 National 1 season.

Willie Ryan will play on the opposite flank, while Carwyn Jones and Harry Casson pack down in the second row.

Alex Walker makes his third start of the season at scrum-half, but otherwise the backline is unchanged from the one that began the 27-14 victory over Doncaster Knights in the most recent round of matches.

It means fly-half Aaron Penberthy makes his second start since joining the club in September and Joe Munro and Aled Jenkins pair up in the second having scored a try apiece against Doncaster Knights.

Curtis Wilson and James Cordy-Redden ware on the wings with Will Harries once again fullback.
