The camps are open to primary school children aged between 5 and 11 years old and are run Monday to Friday, every week throughout the summer school holidays. This week the camp has been fully booked, with 40 children arriving at Trailfinders Sports Club each day.
The multi-sport camp teaches kids a range of skills, focusing on four main sports; rugby, football, cricket and netball. Each of these sports is set up at a different station, that the children rotate through during the day. The community team have six different coaches to cover all sports that the camp offers and they work together to deliver the best possible experience for the children attending.
Ealing Trailfinders Project Manager Nick Allso, who manages and coaches the summer camps, was thrilled to welcome children in from the local area.
“It’s great to see so many new kids down enjoying their summer at Trailfinders Sports Club, it’s been a tough 12 to 18 months for everyone and we are lucky to able to run these camps. It’s inspiring for the children to be playing sport on a pitch right next to professional rugby players, they can’t get this experience anywhere else” explained Allso.
The summer camps are also apart of the Holiday and Activities Food (HAF) programme which was inspired by Marcus Rashford. Where children eligible for free school meals can attend the camps for free as well as have their free meals, here at Trailfinders Sports Club they eat the same meals as the first team players.
