Davies set for debut against Carnegie

Josh Davies will make his Ealing Trailfinders debut when Yorkshire Carnegie visit Vallis Way on Saturday for the first match in this year’s British and Irish Cup.

It is the second time that the teams have met this season after Carnegie opened their Greene King IPC Championship campaign with a 30-13 victory in west London.

The last time the scrum-half faced Carnegie was when he came off the bench for London Welsh in last season’s final, which the Exiles won 33-10 at Headingley.

He will team-up with Will Magie at half-back. Magie last played for Ealing Trailfinders during the 2013-14 Championship season having come through the youth and minis at the club. Most recently this year he helped Denver Stampede win the inaugural USA Pro Rugby Championship before he returned to Vallis Way on a short-term deal.

Chris York will captain the team and line-up at number 8 with flankers Alex Bradley and Seb Nagle-Taylor either side of him. For Bradley it is his first appearance of the season after he recovered from an ankle injury, while Nagle-Taylor will make his debut after joining the team from the England 7s squad.

There is also another new face on the bench after second-row Sam Pailor joined on loan during the week from Birmingham Moseley.

“Some guys have been playing non-stop from the start of the season,” Director of Rugby Ben Ward said. “We are able to freshen up the team with some of the guys who have been training hard and waiting for the chance to impress.

“With a few injuries we have been fortunate to bring in Sam Pailor on loan for a few weeks and Will Magie has re-joined for the short term.”

Former Leeds Beckett student Sam Rodman begins in the number three shirt, alongside Rhys Lawrence and Ignacio Lancuba, while behind them is an all-Welsh second row of Scott Andrews and Carwyn Jones.

Luke Peters and Lewis Jones team up in the centres, both of who are in their first season with the club since graduating from Leeds Beckett University.

Last season’s leading try-scorer Rhys Crane starts at fullback, with Phil Chesters and Callum Wilson outside him on the wings.
