Cornish and Alexis back from England Counties duty
Ealing Trailfinders Professional Academy members Matt Cornish and Ziana Alexis are back involved in pre-season training have both enjoyed England Counties tours over the summer.
Hooker Cornish went away with the senior Counties team to Canada, while prop Alexis headed east to Russia with the U20 team.
Last season Cornish made his senior Ealing Trailfinders debut in the British and Irish Cup match away to Rotherham Titans in February and on tour he played in two of the teams three victories.
“It was an amazing experience,” Cornish said. “It was an honour and the games went really well and I really enjoyed it overall.
“I was really pleased with my performances, the set pieces went really well, lineouts, we won all of the them and the scrums we were really strong.
“I learned loads on tour, it was a really great experience and was surrounded by great people and just getting information and learning from them, all the little things that help you so much.”
England Counties is the flagship team of the Community Game in England and offers players from National League One and below the opportunity to represent their country.
The pair qualify as they balance their time training with the Ealing Trailfinders professional squad with playing for London Irish Wild Geese and Henley Hawks. They also won caps at county level; Cornish with Surrey and Alexis with Berkshire.
In Russia Alexis came off the bench in both matches against Russia’s U20, a 19-14 win and a 32-29.
“It was a very, very good physical test,” Alexis said. “They were very powerful boys, but the scrums went well. It was a lovely place and hot out there and I wish I could do it again.
“It helped me with how to compete and get through the trial and gives me more knowledge of what it is like to play at international level.”
