Chesters, Lawrence, Penny and Rodman sign on

Phil Chesters, Rhys Lawrence Alex Penny and Sam Rodman have all put pen to paper to extend their contracts with Ealing Trailfinders.

Chesters missed the final few weeks of the season through injury, but he weighed in with eight tries before then to take his club tally to over 200 in the seven seasons he has spent at the club.

“I have had seven happy seasons with Ealing Trailfinders, so had no doubts about wanting to sign on for the challenges ahead, ” Chesters said. “It is great that we have been able to secure our place in the Championship next season and I want to do my best to help the club establish itself in that league.”

Rhys Lawrence was one of the key figures throughout the season and the hooker captained the side on 10 occasions where he brought his experience of playing for Bristol to bear in his first season at Vallis Way.

Penny established himself as first-choice tight-head prop in his second season at the club and the ex-Henley Hawk player featured 19 times in both the league and British and Irish Cup.

Rodman enjoyed his first season as a professional rugby player with Ealing Trailfinders, whom he joined after graduating from Leeds Beckett University and he featured in the match-day squad 17 times. During his time as a student he represented the England Student side and he has continued to develop his game in west London.

“Chesters has been part of this club for many years and has developed his game over that period. He is one of the best finishers in the league and wears the shirt with pride, ” Director of Coaching Ben Ward said.

“Alex and Sam have both developed well this season and there is a lot more to come from them. They both need a big pre-season and will hit the ground running next year. Rhys has captained the side and led well in a tough year.

“Our squad is coming together nicely for next season and we have an opportunity to kick on and establish ourselves in the league.”

As well as the quartet extending their deals, Chris York, Joe Munro, Alex Walker, Will Davis and Will Harries are all on two-year deals with the club.
