Brown sets the bar high for the rest of the season

Ealing Trailfinders’ captain Tom Brown believes that the team must match the level displayed in their 78-12 win over Wharfedale on Saturday for the rest of the season.

The 12-try victory meant that Ben Ward’s team maintained their six-point lead at the top of National 1, but with 12 matches remaining Brown believes that the team cannot let those levels drop.

“It was a great result, a very professional performance and something we’ve been striving for, for the whole season, ” he said. “The last few weeks we’ve not quite had the performances we wanted. We’ve had the results but not the performances and today we addressed a lot of things and during the match we addressed things as they went along.

“We’re not seeing anything as an easy game. We have to go 100 percent every game. We are building for something and we can’t take the easy route, we have to be relentless from now in.”

Number 8 Brown was one of seven Ealing Trailfinders try-scorers on the day. STORM Watches man of the match Luke Daniels opened the scoring in the ninth minute and the side’s 12th came with six minutes to go when Anders Nilsson crashed over for his first try of the season.

The scoring rate was reflective of a focused display from the team that allowed them to stay on top throughout the match. Along with the 31-5 win away to Blaydon a week earlier it means that Ealing Trailfinders have taken all 10 points on offer in 2015.

“Fylde was also an 80 minute performance and here today we were ruthless and we played to our strengths, ” Brown added. “We let slip a couple of times and they scored, but we addressed those situations, came back and didn’t let them back in.

“It is massive we get a big start to 2015. This is the business end to the season now and we are in the position we want to be but we need to keep that. We let slip against Coventry and gave them a chance to be in with a shot, but we’ve maintained the six-point lead over them now.”
